hey man i really love your blog! you posted a collaboration picture with generic surplus i was really hoping if you could maybe remember/ask someone where to buy them… I'm really interested! but if not, i completely understand. thanks

Hey,

Thanks for reading!  I appreciate the note.  Unfortunately, I don’t have a great answer for you.  I believe the collaboration doesn’t even hit stores until fall ‘12 product starts shipping.  Keep an eye on the link below, as I think they update it with their collaborations and such when they release:

Hi! I'm a female interested in styling and learning about men's fashion, but I'm not exactly sure where to begin. Besides learning the basics (texture, color, size, and cut), I'm not exactly sure where to go from here. I'm pretty sure I don't know enough because I can't carry a conversation outside of "that guy has style". If you can, I'd appreciate some insight. :) Thanks in advance!

Hey,

Read, read, read.  I would say investigate any and all of your curiosities.  Talk to the stylish guys in your life and pick their brains.  Visit menswear stores and don’t be afraid to ask questions.  Check out menswear editorials and campaigns.  Read GQ, Details, and Esquire.  Learn the basics about men’s tailoring before you try to understand the non-tailored stuff.  Try to get an internship in styling.  Be hungry.  I think that’s a good start.  Let me know if that helps!

Hey Tuck, not sure if u got my last message. But I luv your blog and think u have a lot of style. I was wondering your opinion on something. I have an oval fave and was thinking what shades can I get (aviators) on a trip I will be making in April to LA for the first time. I have a pair of Tom Fords but i wanted to switch up a bit and leave these behind and take a new pair. Any ideas?

Hey man,

I tried to answer this last night and then tumblr crashed!  I am no expert at face shape + eyewear.  So…I found 3 links that might be able to help.  There was a really good face shape guide awhile back but I can’t seem to find it.

I try to treat sunglasses, and clothing for that matter, the same way I treat gadget purchases – try them out.  All the sizing guides are just generic keys to understanding what might work, but you’ll never know what actually works until you start getting personal with the product.  I’m pretty sure aviators look good anyone as long as you get the right width, lens size/shape, and color. Hope that helps!

Best of luck!

I was wondering what you would recommend for a medium build, six foot two guy, who wanted to smarten up around the work place. I work for a small family business with 6 employees and usual work attire is jeans and a tee shirt. I would like to generally smarten up my wardrobe but not end up feeling out of place at the office. Amy suggestions would be great. Really love the blog and our company makes cufflinks so if you ever need drop me a line!!

Hey Josh,

Sorry for the delay. I think smarten up your look, regardless of height and build, is just a matter of swapping out the shoes and shirt.  Ditch the sneakers or other casual footwear for a nice wingtip brogue – nothing to fancy but a good cognac leather.  Replace the laces with some colorful, fun ones if you want to still keep the casual element. Swap out the tee shirt for a casual button down – think chambray or gingham.  I’ll leave it up to you to tuck it in or not.  If you are going to tuck in, incorporate a nice slim belt that complements the shoes.

About the cufflinks, feel free to drop me a line at [email protected]

Best,

What do you suggest tall, medium weight guy should go for. What kind of style, or clothes… Something for autumn,/winter…. Thanks

Hey,

I’m assuming we’re talking in terms of your casual weekend attire?  I’m a huge fan of denim, chambray, and shirts with “interest” – i.e. a woolen or donnegal tweed shirt, a speckled shirt, etc.  You can pretty much own two or three of these and rock them with some slim selvedge denim jeans or slim chinos.  Make sure each item fits your proportions properly and you’re good.  Add in some nice authentic workwear boots or some other boot tough enough to handle walking around in the cold months.  Honestly, the colder it gets the more comfortable I like to be, so keeping it simple, layering for warmth, but keeping the look slim and thoughtful is the best way.  Let me know if you need any other suggestions or recommendations!

Best,

Tucked
